Despite the fact that the Windows command prompt is extremely old, it is still used by lots of people. Besides that, there are a lot of programs that still use the command prompt, especially old programs. Some users rely on these programs for completing their work. But in spite of its popularity, the Command Prompt seems very difficult to use and requires some experience. Fortunately, there is an alternative to this and that's Take Command. It's a program that resembles the old command prompt, but adds more functionality to it, making it easier to use even by beginners.

Take Command is not difficult to install, nor does require much intervention from the user for completing this task. It supports every version of the Windows operating system and takes up little hard disk space and requires low system resource.

Regarding the interface of Take Command, it resembles the one of the classical command prompt, but it seems much more improved. The first thing that's being noticed is the fact that it supports various skins and themes. Besides that, it includes a file browser that resembles the Windows Explorer. When dealing with commands that require entering a path to a file, that certain file can be simply dragged onto the command window in order to be used. Another thing that makes Take Command different from the old command prompt is the support for tabs. Every tab can have its own commands.

The status bar of Take Command continuously displays in real time information regarding the use of the CPU and system memory. Take Command does not only include the well known command prompt, it also features an integrated development environment for creating BAT files which can contain various commands. Despite the fact that the tool requires some experience regarding programming, it's very easy to use and can clearly point out any error that may appear in the command writing process.

For allowing beginners to make an idea about how the program actually works, there is a comprehensive help system available that explains in detail every feature of the program. Besides that, the program includes an options section, for thoroughly modifying the look and feel and the functionality of the application.

Pros

It has much more features than the old command prompt, allowing even beginners to use them. Besides that, the interface is modern and supports various themes. Furthermore, the program includes an IDE that allows easy creation of BAT command files.

Cons

Despite the fact that the interface is intuitive, some programming experience is still required, thus beginners may have some trouble using the program. Take Command is a very good replacement for the old Command Prompt, offering many more features.
